Homevolt is developed with your safety in mind – thoroughly verified and certified for safe operation. The battery is designed to ensure safety in every layer, from cell to the complete system. Each component, from individual cells to mechanical structures, undergoes rigorous testing. Local frequency measurement enhances control precision, bolstering safety protocols for frequency regulation (VPP).
Integral to its safety features is the Battery Management System (BMS), overseeing and regulating battery functions. By continuously monitoring parameters like temperature, voltage, and current, the BMS enables optimal performance and ensures that the battery unit operates in a safe, reliable and efficient way.

FAQ

Can I lower peak hours by using power from the batteries?
The basic way is to combine a home battery with hourly priced energy. You can automatically charge your battery when the price is low and store the energy to be used when the price is high.

Does the battery work together with e.g. smart heating, smart charging etc?

The Homevolt-integration is designed to fully utilize the Tibber framework and Homevolt is just like another piece of the puzzle that is your Tibber-enabled Smart home.

Can I use the battery as backup power if the power goes out?

The so-called “island mode” is not currently supported.

Do I have to be a Tibber customer to buy and use the Homevolt battery?

If no, what functionality will be available for non-Tibber customers?

No, you don’t need to be a Tibber customer to use Homevolt, but you do need an electricity contract with Tibber for Homevolt to really understand your home. Without the Tibber app, only your own consumption is available and you will therefore not be able to benefit from energy price optimization.

How is it recycled and what are the climate impact?

All parts of the battery cell is built with a circular mindset. At the end of the life all parts can be recycled. One aspect of circularity is longevity, and our products are built to have a long lifetime. This also means that the volumes to recycle are still low. However, Homevolt are fully recyclable, and Polarium are working continuously to innovate and drive best practises for circularity in the industry, together with leading partners in this field.

What chemicals/material is used in the battery?

The battery is composed of lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxides (abbreviated NMC)

Can I have the battery outside in the rain/snow/dust/ocean spray?

Homevolt is classified as IP65. In practice, this means that Homevolt can withstand the most challenging weather conditions. Homevolt is also certified with the safety marks IEC 62619, IEC 63056, UN 38.3 and CE.

How do I connect the Homevolt?

For optimal performance, it is recommended to connect the Homevolt to WiFi, the included LTE connection serves as a backup in case WiFi is disconnected. This is of course free of charge.

What sizes of batteries will there be?

Homevolt consists of one or two modules giving a capacity of either 6.6 or 13.3 kWh. The integrated inverter has a rated power of 6 kW.

Safety first! Are batteries a fire hazard?

Yes, batteries contain electrolytes which is flammable, but we take a lot of steps to prevent this and keep a high safety precaution. Our products are designed to ensure self-supporting safety in every layer. Providing maximal safety. On its own. To these state-of-the-art products we have added intelligent systems. To provide and develop a safer user experience

Do I need to hire an electrician to install the battery? Do you provide installation?

Homevolt is sold by Tibber and Svea with installation included, as it must be installed by an electrician.

Where should it be installed, and what about insurance and their recommendations?

Homevolt can be installed both indoors and outdoors. When installing home batteries, you should always check with your insurance company to make sure they have any requirements and/or suggestions on where to mount.

Location and space needed

Minimum 30 cm to surrounding objects (floor and wall excluded)- as long as the general recommendations for the location of the battery are followed.
Minimum 30 cm to another battery system.
Minimum 2 m to the closest heat source (e.g. radiator).

Are there any risks involved in installing it in direct sunlight, facing south?

It could potentially overheat (and not want to charge/discharge). As with all electronics, a direct south-facing installation should not be recommended. The battery system will automatically decrease its output power at high temperatures to protect itself from overheating.
